-ART- Fauvism, Henri Matisse

Fauvism means that ,as the color is too rough, it looks like wild animal.
Henri Matisse is famous for the Fauvism.
At that time, Picasso said matisse bear the sun.
We would know why he said like that if we see Matisse's pictures.
The use of color is so bold  isn't it?
Overall, the red and green are used.
these colors complement each other, futhermore these are primary colors.
but, surprisingly, the painting's harmony is so good.
this painting is same.
Although many colors are used, the harmony  is so nice~
Why he use the color boldly??
Matisse is affected by the Cezanne (Cezanne affect modern art such as Fauvism and Cuvism)
and he wnats to free from the impressionist.
so he deconstruct the form and he pour his passion to the color.
he express through the vivid and strong color.
and more he makes the form simple to send effectively the color image.

These are series named Blue nude.
Blue nude are made by colored paper.
the form is so simple and just one color.
As he had a serious disease, it can't help him doing the art through the colored paper.
This is last but important to me because of the meaning in this picture.
The title is Polynesia sea.
The picture doesn't describe the original sea.
but he put the real host of sea.
moreover, he put the big bird in the middle of picture.
I think it reflects a view of harmony nature.
I love the harmony and it makes me love his paintings

-ART- the Post impressionist Cezanne

Have you ever heard about the famous 3 apples?
First is the apple of Adam and Eve
the second is Newton's apple
Last is the Cezanne's apple
Why the Cezanne's apple is important?
This is the topic of posting!

Cezanne is called the father of modern art.
He started art as a the post impressionist.
So he didn't get along with contemporary painters.
The big difference of impressionism and post impressionism is the limitness of objet.
Cezanne is over the objet and tries to add the essence.
Look at the picture.
Apples don't look like real apples and aren't delicious.
But his apples contain the essence.
look the right picture. see the arrow?!
the arrows are not fixed.
It's reason why he want to express the essence
so he tries to find the perspective that reveal each apple
nevertheless, his paint is well harmonized.
And he ignore the perspective so he is cricticized by contemporary artist.
In this situation, he dosen't give up his way and he strongly says he conquer the paris through the apple
and it's come true.
Moreover he wants to express the essence throught the color and form.
So he had studied that and it affects Fauvism from color and Cubism from form.
He is quite important artist and..
I want to learn his WILL.

-ART-the Post Impressionist Paul Gauguin

Maybe most people read the book 'The moon and sixpence'
The main character of this novel is reflected to Paul Gauguin.
He is described as the artist who pursue the moon-ideal
Therefore, his life don't go smoothly.
Originally his job was a employee of stock market. then that time he affected by his supporter
So he decide to be an artist professionally. First he get along with impressionist.
but he disagree the thought of impressionist.
he want to express the internal mind and imagine things in painting not the reproduct
and this thought affect to 20c art.
also he emphasizes on strong color, thick line and simple form.
this picture has the features.

But his life in paris was so poor and hard.
and more he hate the civilization
so he leave civiliazation and decide to go primitve land, Tahiti.

In Tahiti, he paints a lot and satisfied his life
but his picture isn't sold in paris
because of this his life is so poor, also he got sick.
finally he have a plan to make a masterpiece
"Where do we come from What are we Where are we going"

In this picture, he pours out his philosophy.
Birth and death
during this time, what we are how we are.
this picture makes us consider our life.

[ART]Impressionist Edouard Manet

Manet is called 'the father of impressionism'
He was born rich family so he had good educations.
Although he was affluent, he wasn't reluctant to meet other artist in cafe.
Also, he encouraged many other artist to draw a picture out of the tradition like the Salon.

This picture's name is Olympia
First of all, it was criticized by many artist because of lasciviousness
the model's pose and face was too sensual.
nevertheless, Manet didn't break his spirit.

and he affect other artist through this picture named Le déjeuner sur l'herbe
(It mean the lunch on the grass.)
It hang on the Salon des Refusés.
and it was criticized by many artist too because of ignored space sense.
it looks flatness.
despite of the critic, it made other artist look the light.
Monet,Sisley etc went out to look at the light
It's the first that the Impressionism started.
Today, this is so famous painting
It features removed background, flatness, and simple color.
It was out of existing composition and technique.
Owing to this reason, this picture wasn't appreciated.
But, that times, Emile Zola wrote a review for distinction of him.

His picture was too cricticized first.
But he kept his spirit.
Also, he affected modern art and Impressionism.
If he was broken by tradition, our history of art was changed, i think.

-ART- Stendhal syndrome

Stendhal syndrome, Stendhal's syndrome, hyperkulturemia, or Florence syndrome is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly beautiful or a large amount of art is in a single place. The term can also be used to describe a similar reaction to a surfeit of choice in other circumstances, e.g. when confronted with immense beauty in the natural world.
                                                                                                    - wekipedia-

This is the definition of Stendal syndrome.
Did you experiences about that?
Sure it's not common but in France, per year almost 10 people fall in a faint.
So near the museum in France some ambulance like that always stan by.

and i had a similar feeling like that (but never never fall in a faint) with looking th bedroom in arle

When i was 17, i went to the art museum with my friend.
many paintings were there.
but, in front of this picture, i shocked
the color overwhelmed me
i just stand in shock
i never forgot the moment.

It 's a private experience and it's nothing to someone
but i 'm sure that if you feel various feeling, your life is more richness

-ART-Impressionist Vincent Van Gogh

My favorite artist is Vincent Van Gogh
because his pictures attract me.
As i look at his picture,  i just shed tears and sympathized his life and mind.
Maybe, anyone who looks the picture would feels his life and pain
At that time, his painting is not famous like now a days.
It's his hope to hang his painting in the cafe.
He barely makes ends meet and draw a picture through money that his brother, Teo sent.
But he didn't give up the paintig. He keep trying to do better with copying.

and moreover he have a mental illness
but, ironically, The more his mental illness sicks, the more his art ability is outstanding.
Whatever. his life is more bad than fighting with Gogang

He was so depressed that eventually he decide to kill himself
(Of course, his suicide have been in controversy)
Look that picture, it is a place that he shoot a gun at hinself.

It's so miserable life....
I'm so so sad.

-ART-Impressionist Monet

Claude Monet is a artist who starts to use a term Impression.
At that time, main artists think the object has a own color
and an accuracy is very important in art.
But, Monet wants to be free out of tradtion and wants to go out to paint.
Especially, he realizes what the moment means.
Everything is changing every moment because of the light.
So the original color of objects don't exsist.
Now he catchs the momentary image along the change of light.
Serie-painting is a result of it.
Look the his famous series-paint 'Water Lilies'

 He attends to the water!
and he love the ripples of the water.
Eventually, he made a atelier on board.
he also has a beautiful garden in Giverny with water lilies, pond and bridge.
His quite special thing is a color sense which is affected by Japonism
Charateristic of Japonism is a bold and clear color.
At a glance, it looks like disharmony because of primary color and color contrasts.
At that time, main artists in Europe criticize the Japonism.
but, Monet acquires the technique of using color.
He is free of bias or tradition.
He doesn't afraid of accepting a new and differnt things
He submiliates the Japonism in his painting.
He is a respectable artist because of his tought, of couse, his paints

CF) i loves the harmony of the color
so warm and peaceful isn't it?!
